NRA Basic Pistol - Blended $150

Phase 1 Online: ($60) and Phase 2 Date: ($150) Apr 11, 2025

Personal Lessons
$50 per hour/ 2 hour minimum

Blended Training: The Blended training format provides students the flexibility to complete a significant portion of the course in an e-Learning environment, prior to arriving for the classroom and range session with an NRA Certified Instructor.

Course topics include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor.

4 hours / 200 rounds per handgun


This course is geared towards those who are new to pistol shooting, or those familiar with handguns but desiring structured training on the fundamentals.

This course is offered as a Blended Learning version (e-learning at home, plus a follow-on range session with an instructor).

This course consists of two Phases: Phase I is self-paced, on-line instruction through the NRA website; Phase II is the actual range portion following the completion of your on-line training. You will need to register & complete the Phase I portion prior to conducting the Phase II hands-on range portion.

All students are required to have a NYS Pistol Permit, Firearm and 200 rounds of ammunition to attend. Range fees are additional. Loaner firearms are avaiable for a nominal fee.

Course Outline
Phase I (On-line):
($60, paid to the NRA for Phase I)
This is an 11-section self paced, on line training course via the NRA's website that covers the following topics, & culminates with an on-line exam.

Phase II (Hands-on, Range Session):
$150 per person, paid Damon Finch Power Sessions prior to the day of training)

Plan to spend about 2 hours to review the materials learned during Phase I & conduct some hands-on dry fire instruction, and around 2 - 2 1/2 hours on the range. The following topics are covered:

Validate comprehension & application of the Gun Safety Rules
Range Protocol
Proper handling, loading, & unloading procedures (using dummy rounds, then live fire on the range)
The Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
Shooting Positions
Clearing Pistol Stoppages (hands-on using dummy rounds)
Live fire qualification
